An Army sergeant accused of shooting an unarmed Iraqi then ordering a comrade to "finish him" faces court martial in Hawaii this week.
Sergeant Trey Corrales is charged with premeditated murder and could be sentenced to life in prison if convicted.
The still-unidentified Iraqi was shot multiple times in the head and chest last June during a raid on a suspected insurgent hideout near the northern city of Kirkuk.
Private Christopher Shore admitted firing additional shots at the man on orders from Corrales but says he intentionally missed. A panel acquitted Shore of murder, but convicted him of aggravated assault. He's expected to testify against Corrales.
Both men deployed to Iraq in mid-2006 for 15-month tours of duty with their Honolulu-based combat team.
Corrales will be arraigned Tuesday. The trial is expected to start Wednesday and last three or four days.
