Cambridge City - A cross now marks the site where the body of 16-year-old Tara Pickett was found Tuesday night.
"It's sickening. Yes, I am sick to my stomach. That poor girl had so much life ahead of her. She did not deserve this," said Peg, who grew up just three houses down from where Tara's body was found.
47-year-old Leonard Wesley Dickey already served 23 years for rape and was currently out on $50,000 bond for three counts of molestation when police arrested him as a suspect in Pickett's death.
"He should not have been allowed to be put back out on the streets to have a chance to do this again," Peg claimed.
Wayne County prosecutor Mike Shipman declined an on-camera interview, but he released a copy of the charges to the media late Wednesday afternoon.
The probable cause affidavit reads, "Dickey told officers that he strangled Pickett and caused her death. Dickey accompanied troopers to the area where Pickett's body was discovered. Dickey described... how he strangled Pickett and the location at which it occurred."
Ted Roberson was so concerned that he printed off the bios of every registered sexual offender living in Wayne County. "He just got out, and they should never have let him out," said Roberson.
Folks in Cambridge City will tell you that things like this don't happen here, but the sad reality is, it did. They'll also tell you, "This should have never happened," and on that point, they may have a case.
