Donald Rumsfeld says it's impossible to say whether the war in Iraq is creating more terrorists.
The defense chief says there's just no good way to measure it.
He's refusing to get drawn into the specifics of a political war triggered by a recently disclosed U-S intelligence assessment. The collective report by U-S intelligence agencies says, in part, that Iraq has become a "cause celebre" for jihadists. It warns that the risks to U-S interests at home and abroad are likely to grow.
Rumsfeld is in Slovenia for a NATO meeting. He told reporters who quizzed him about it today that it would be "nonsensical" to think that if we stop killing or capturing people trying to kill us, the world would be a better place.
