It's lunch time at The Silver Grill in Midtown Atlanta. The special is meatloaf with crowder peas, but many opt for the favorite, fried chicken and mashed potatoes.
It's not the only way this diner is divided. The same debate that rages on Capitol Hill over the war in Iraq and when to leave is served up here.
"There's been enough senseless death of our soldiers over there," says patron Audra Brown Ward. "And I think it's time to come home."
"We should stay the course without question," responds Don Barkley. "If we pull out, we are a bunch of chickens."
Some say the war in Iraq has divided the nation.
"It has terribly in the last few years," says Becky Baldwin.
"What are you going to do, just quit now?" asks William Etheridge.
It's all washed down with plenty of sweet tea.
"It's going to [sic] just like the Vietnam war," says John McCormick. "We're just continuously involved over there."
David Firth is a carpenter. He wants the troops out now.
"We've been there a long time," he says. "We spent a lot of money and it's actually guys like us who pay the taxes to fund wars like these."
Braxton Pope sells real estate and says any timetable just helps the enemy.
"If we do it right, we're gonna have to have troops there for at least 10 years," he says.
"I'm not saying cut and run, next week, next month," responds William Sonny Walker. "I'm not saying that at all, I'm saying let's transition out of there."
A table away, Sam Holman is adamant.
"If we pull out, we'll be back," says Holman. "It will be all over again. We'll have to start all over again.
The debate threatens to drag on until dinner, but there are some issues this divided diner agrees on — everyone supports the troops, and recommends the cobbler.
