It's that dreaded time of the year again: tax time. With the April 15 deadline fast approaching, the Internal Revenue Service expects to receive a flood of 35 million tax returns over the next few days. Already it's received almost 100 million tax returns. But not everyone is ready to file their taxes -- about 12 million people are expected to apply for a 6-month extension to the filing deadline.
And this might surprise you. Not only did more than 90 million Americans file their taxes electronically this year -- which is about 1.5 million more than last year -- but 2 million more Americans decided to file their taxes themselves this time around instead of hiring tax preparers.
