New research released Tuesday from the University of California, Davis and the American Sociological Association suggest a previously overlooked group of bullying victims in American schools: the kids who are popular. Specifically, as a kid climbs his or her way into the school's upper echelons of popularity, that kid's chance of being bullied increases by more than 25 percent. But why?

NBC News hosted a live webcast at 1:15 p.m. ET on Tuesday to discuss the new research and answer your questions. Chris Jansing hosted, and was joined by Dr. Robert Faris, an associate professor of sociology at UC-Davis (and one of the authors of the reports) and Dr. Gail Saltz.

Viewers submitted questions using the hashtag #AskNBCNews on Facebook and Twitter. Full video will be available on-demand later today.
