LONDON — Prince Harry has apologized to Canada after wearing a Los Angeles Dodgers cap at a World Series game against the Toronto Blue Jays.

Harry and his wife, Meghan, were seen in the front row at Game 4 of the series, both sporting bright blue Dodgers headwear. The choice caused some consternation in Canada, a commonwealth country that the couple had called home and whose head of state is Harry’s father, King Charles III.

“Firstly, I would like to apologize to Canada for wearing it,” the Duke of Sussex told Canadian broadcaster CTV on Thursday. “Secondly, I was under duress. There wasn’t much choice,” he joked.

Harry said that wearing the cap felt like “the polite thing to do” after he was invited to the game by the team’s owner.

He later switched to a Blue Jays cap for the rest of the series, showing belated support for the only Canadian team in Major League Baseball.

The Blue Jays ultimately lost the series to the defending champion Dodgers in a dramatic Game 7.

Explaining his initial choice of headwear, Harry said that “when you’re missing a lot of hair on top, and you’re sitting under flood lights, you’ll take any hat that’s available.”

Harry, who is visiting Canada for Remembrance Week events, was given a Blue Jays hat while meeting with the nation’s oldest veterans on Thursday.

Wearing it in the interview with CTV, he said he was “devastated” at Toronto's defeat.

“Game 5, Game 6, Game 7, I was Blue Jays throughout. Now that I’ve admitted that, it’s going to be pretty hard for me to return back to Los Angeles,” he added.

After leaving their royal lives behind, Harry and Meghan now live in Montecito with their children Archie, 6, and Lilibet, 4.

Meghan resided in Toronto while filming the TV drama Suits and spent time there with Harry in the early days of their relationship, before the couple moved to Los Angeles in 2020.

Meghan has previously showed support for the Blue Jays herself.
