The extreme human suffering in Syria has been newly documented in tens of thousands of photographs of prisoners who died in that country’s civil war. The photos, reportedly smuggled out of the country, have been released by three former war crimes prosecutors who say they are clear evidence of systematic abuse and torture by the Assad regime.
