Katie Van Tornhout, an Indiana woman who lost her 37-day-old daughter to whooping cough, recalls the heartbreak of losing a child to the preventable illness. “We paid the ultimate price,” Van Tornhout said when describing the grief of losing their daughter Callie after the infant was infected with the highly contagious respiratory infection.
