The White House is embracing technology, students and great photo-ops by holding its first Maker Faire.
Maker Faire, which describes itself as "part science fair, part county fair, and part something entirely new," attracted 165,000 people to its two main events in San Mateo, Calif., and New York City in 2012. It has also spawned a number of "Mini Maker Faires," which are independently organized by local communities and have been held in 60 cities around the world.
One of its attendees: Joey "Marshmallow" Hudy, the teen whiz who famously impressed President Barack Obama (and earned a State of the Union invitation) with a demonstration of his confection-propelling cannon inside of the White House.
The White House isn't giving any details about its event, except that it will happen "later this year" and "will be an opportunity to highlight both the remarkable stories of Makers like Joey and commitments by leading organizations to help more students and entrepreneurs get involved in making things."
Those who are interested in entering their gadgets can either email the Office of Science and Technology Policy or tweet their ideas with the hashtag #IMadeThis.
