Dorian Nakamoto, the man alleged by Newsweek to be the creator of cryptocurrency bitcoin, appeared in a video Tuesday to once more deny the allegations and thank the people who had donated to a fundraiser benefiting his family.
"Thank you very much for your support throughout this ordeal," Nakamoto said in the video, seated next to fundraiser organizer and bitcoin evangelist Andreas Antonopoulos.
"There's 2,000 of you who donated," he continued. The total as it stands is about 47.6 bitcoins — nearly $24,000 at today's prices. Nakamoto is between jobs and dealing with medical issues, so the money will surely be welcomed.
The 64-year-old Japanese-American, who lives in Temple City, Calif., also took a moment to refute yet again the suggestion that he and Bitcoin creator Satoshi Nakamoto are one and the same — though numerous reports and facts have already largely discredited Newsweek's March 14 report, by Leah McGrath Goodman.
"Satoshi Nakamoto is not me. Leah thinks so, and Newsweek said so, but it's not true."
Lastly, despite saying he knew nothing about bitcoin until he was told he created it, Nakamoto said he would be joining the bitcoin community and trying to contribute however he could.
