When the Colonial American setting of "Assassin's Creed 3" was revealed, along with the protagonist's Native American lineage, players began speculating all the different ways one would be able to dish punishment. Scalping seemed to some be a possibility, and such a tactic was even included at one point. But it has since been removed.
Destructoid notes that they were able to see exclusive, behind-closed doors footage in which Ratohnhaké:ton (or Connor Kenway, as he'll also be referred to) eviscerates the scalp of an English soldier. But the developer immediately noted that it will not be in the final product because of its extremely gruesome nature.
The report goes on to state that the actual implementation of the mechanic was even demonstrated, which was "incredibly powerful, complete with a stomach-churning sound effect which really hit home," according to Destructoid's Conrad Zimmerman.
The author theorizes that, due to the possibility of a controversy that such a graphic maneuver might stir, especially given the socio-political connotations behind the act, it is perhaps best left to the cutting room floor after all.
