"Destiny," the upcoming "shared world shooter" from the creators of the "Halo" series, launched a new trailer in anticipation of a full gameplay reveal next month at the Electronic Entertainment Expo.
The roughly 90-second video doesn't show much in the way of actual gameplay unfortunately. But developer Bungie found something that's almost as good — if not better, depending on how big a "Breaking Bad" fan you are. The video shows Giancarlo Esposito, who plays the mildly psychotic drug kingpin and Walter White's main antagonist Gustavo Fring in AMC's acclaimed television series, reading from what sounds like a book of fables about "The Law of the Jungle."
Sadly, there is no mention of Los Pollos Hermanos or crystal methamphetamine. Instead, there's a ragtag group of bounty hunter-esque warriors fighting a large force of heavily armored space marines. The good guys, who all bear an uncanny resemblance to Boba Fett, manage to best their opponent despite being outmanned and outgunned. But then a gigantic space marine wielding a Gatling gun drops down behind them. Just imagine how much easier Walt and Jesse's job defeating Gus would have been if they had one of those guys on their side.
"The Law of the Jungle" raises more questions than it answers. Who are these people, and why are the space marines so hell-bent on killing them? What kind of steroids is that gigantic space marine on? Are they even steroids this far in the future (or past) in a galaxy far, far away? And who is Esposito reading the story to? Why is he even reading and not just slitting someone's throat with a box cutter? And is that Gus Fring-driven spin-off to "Breaking Bad" actually going to happen?
I guess we'll just have to wait and see.
Jon Favreau, who previously worked on "Iron Man" and "Elf", directed the "Law of the Jungle" trailer. "Destiny" publisher Activision (of "Call of Duty" and "Skylanders" fame) said that it will show actual gameplay footage at Sony's E3 press conference June 10.
