Jill Abramson, the famously fired former New York Times executive editor, has a decidedly Silicon Valley-style Plan B: Launch a startup.
Don't worry, she isn't launching a new disappearing-message app or an Uber for hair gel. "We actually are pitching a startup that will be ... unsurprisingly, very ambitious killer journalism," Abramson said Monday night at a WBUR event at Boston University. Plans for the unnamed startups are in the early stages, and Abramson is working on it with fellow journalist Steven Brill. The venture won't be "a whole magazine or a full website," Abramson said. Instead, the veteran journalist said, "We’re talking about doing a discrete number of great pieces."
Abramson made history when she became the first woman executive editor of the New York Timesin 2011 -- and sparked a debate about female management’s compensation when she was fired earlier this year. She's also known for her tattoo of the New York Times logo -- perhaps soon to be joined by a startup logo too?
