Facebook and Instagram were among several social networking sites that suffered temporary outages Tuesday, affecting users in the United States, Asia, Australia and Europe.
Facebook, which has 1.25 billion active users, and Instagram were both down between about 1 a.m. and 2 a.m. ET. Instagram said on its Twitter account that it is aware of an outage and was working on a fix.
Neither Facebook nor Instagram had issued a statement by 3 a.m. ET.
Some users reported that the dating service Tinder, AOL's instant messenger AIM, and the instant messaging site Hip Chat had also been offline.
