On the last day of Sam Brown’s first tour of duty in Kandahar, Afghanistan, his Humvee ran over an IED and exploded into a fireball – engulfing his body in flames. In order to recover, Brown endured more than two dozen painful surgeries but was deeply concerned about his growing dependence on addictive pain killing narcotics.
