It turns out that Americans are not fans of losing an hour of sleep. Sunlight is nice, though.

A little more than a week ago, America sprung forward with Daylight Savings Time (DST), losing an hour of sleep. Naturally, they complained about it on Facebook.

Compared the previous week, Facebook saw a dramatic increase in the following terms: tired (25 percent), sleepy (28 percent) and exhausted (20 percent).

Where were people the most tired? Certainly not Arizona, where they have been exempt from Daylight Savings Time since 1973. (More sunlight is not necessarily welcome in the desert).

Here, a look at the most “tired” states on the Monday after the change:

For some reason, people in Maryland just couldn’t deal. Drink some coffee, Maryland!

Afterwards, as people adjusted to the time change, they realized that sunlight can be a good thing. Facebook also found a dramatic increase in the words wonderful (21 percent) and great (19 percent), which corresponded with a decline in the words annoyed (14 percent) and bored (12 percent).

Facebook also created a word cloud showing what people were saying alongside the phrases "time change" and "daylight savings."

So there you have it: a portrait of a grumpy, confused America, cursing their alarm clocks before heading to work to complain about it on social media.

And if you need someone to blame, find out why most Americans temporarily fall out of sync with much of the rest of the world this time every year. SPOILER ALERT: It's Ben Franklin's fault.
