Apple CEO Tim Cook tweeted his support for the 5-4 Supreme Court ruling on Friday that declared same-sex marriages legal across the United States. Cook became the first chief executive of a Fortune 500 company to come out publicly when he wrote an essay on the subject in the October 30, 2014 issue of Bloomberg Businessweek.

"No union is more profound than marriage, for it embodies the highest ideals of love, fidelity, devotion, sacrifice, and family," Justice Anthony Kennedy wrote in the majority opinion. The ruling means that the 14 states that currently do not allow gay couples to get married will have to end their bans.
