Spotify is moving beyond music. This week, Android users of the app will start seeing video from providers such as ESPN and Comedy Central.
IPhone users will also start seeing videos, but not for another week, Shiva Rajaraman, Spotify’s vice president of product, told the Wall Street Journal. NBC News reached out to Spotify, who confirmed the launch dates of its video product, which will at first only be available on its mobile apps.
Right now, Spotify has more than 75 million active users, including more than 20 million who pay for the service. That might seem like a lot, but Spotify has to compete with YouTube, which boasts more than 1 billion users. Spotify originally announced that video was coming in May 2015.

"For the first time, Spotify is adding video clips and audio shows to the music mix," the company wrote on its website. "We know there are times in the day you want to switch between music to catch up on the latest news, listen to your favourite podcast or simply watch something fun."
Like Spotify's popular "Discover Weekly" playlists, the service will suggest video content based on what people have watched in the past.
