If meeting potential partners is a numbers game, then Tinder is winning.
The dating app is responsible for 1 billion matches since launching less than two years ago, company CEO Sean Rad recently told TechCrunch. To be clear, that doesn’t mean 1 billion people have met, fallen in love or even talked because of Tinder.
The app matches people based on their Facbeook photos. People either swipe left on a photo, the digital equivalent of a thumbs-down, or they swipe right, which lets people instant message each other. (Contact is usually made with the traditional greeting, "Sup?")
So, essentially, there have been 1 billion instances of two Tinder users swiping right.
Were some of those matches between a celebrity and a normal, non-famous human? Possibly! That is why Tinder recently announced a verification system, much like Twitter already offers.
Tinder — which like Match.com and OKCupid, is owned by IAC — has not revealed how many users it has. One thing is for sure: There are a lot of them, and they are actively swiping way their way towards romance.
