Microsoft is launching a new Office app called Sway, designed to make projects polished, interactive and shareable on multiple devices.
The new tool -- which is currently available in invite-only preview mode at Sway.com -- lets users enter text, photo, video and other media they'd like to include in a project. Sway automatically arranges (or rearranges) the items into a slickly designed layout as the user continues to work, and it's possible to change up the layout or select other design templates and color palettes.
Once the tweaking of the project, called a "Sway," is complete, the tool generates a URL that pulls up the project on any device with a web browser. Sway can tell if the project is opened on a smartphone, tablet, laptop or other devices -- and it automatically resizes the project view to fit the screen. Microsoft's approach to Sway echoes Tuesday's preview event for the upcoming Windows 10, in which company executives stressed the new operating system is designed to work on a broad range of products from connected appliances to 80-inch touchscreens.
