Google and several partners in the tech industry and elsewhere launched a new effort Thursday that aims to get girls interested in topics like computer science and IT. "Fewer than one percent of high school girls express interest in majoring in computer science," wrote YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki in a blog post. (YouTube is owned by Google.) After testing out a number of resources with her own daughter, Wojcicki is leading Google's part of "Made with Code," a set of projects, resources and videos to familiarize young girls and women with tech topics like coding and 3-D printing. Partners include the Girl Scouts, MIT Media Lab and sites like Khan Academy. In addition, women in the tech industry will be posting about their jobs and inspirations. "No matter what a girl dreams of doing," concluded Wojcicki, "learning how to code will help her get there."
