Will.i.am thinks 3-D printing can help cut down on waste. The Black Eyed Peas frontman is teaming up with Coca-Cola to launch a 3-D printer with cartridges made in part from recycled plastic Coke bottles. Will.i.am was named chief creative officer at 3D System in January, and the new Ekocycle Cube 3-D printer is the first product to be launched under that relationship. The rapper says the device can be used to print everything from plastic bracelets to robots. “We will make it cool to recycle, and we will make it cool to make products using recycled materials. This is the beginning of a more sustainable 3-D-printed lifestyle. Waste is only waste if we waste it.” The Ekocycle is touted as a “plug and play consumer 3-D printer for everyday use.” It will sell for $1,199 and comes with 25 music, tech and fashion-minded designs selected by will.i.am for 3-D printable accessories.
