The White House already holds annual Science Fairs meant to drum up innovation, and on Wednesday it's launching another event centered around wild creations: the first annual White House Maker Faire. It's one of the dozens of annual Maker Faires sponsored by Maker Media, meant to let inventors and tinkerers show off products made using new tools like 3-D printers. The White House is expecting more than 100 makers from 25 states to attend. The guest list includes stars from the Science Fair events, including Jody Hudy -- who made the infamous "extreme marshmallow cannon" at the 2012 fair -- and Sylvia Todd, host of Sylvia's Super-Awesome Maker Show. Like the science fair, the maker event is part of the Obama administration's emphasis on science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) skills.
