Drones have delivered pizzas, sparked debate between the FAA and Amazon and attracted the admiration of Martha Stewart. Now, researchers from MIT and Cornell University are experimenting with how the unmanned aerial vehicles can assist with photo-shoots, an MIT release said Friday. The team is testing how drones can help a photographer achieve rim lighting, the delicate illumination around a subject’s edges. An algorithm controls the adjustment of the robot's position to trace the subject’s movement and meet the photographer’s desired level of light. The team plans to showcase the prototype at the International Symposium on Computational Aesthetics in Graphics, Visualization and Imaging in Canada in August.
