You can add British theaters to the list of places you can't wear Google Glass. The U.K.'s Cinema Exhibitors Association, a group of the country's movie theater companies, announced that the wearable tech is officially not welcome at its shows. Phil Clapp, the CEA's chief executive, told UK newspaper the Independent that "customers will be requested not to wear these into cinema auditoriums, whether the film is playing or not."
A source close to the matter confirmed this policy to NBC News, but also said the decision, while it has the support of the major U.K. film circuits, is advisory, not legally binding — so technically, the choice is up to the theater owner. The source also said the decision had been deliberated for half a year before being finalized about a month ago. Users of Glass will be asked to remove any wearables that can record, and the usual authorities will be contacted if filming is believed to have occurred. The move mirrors similar bans by restaurants and the Alamo Drafthouse theater chain.
