The latest gadget to tear up Kickstarter isn't really even a gadget, but rather something you'd charge your gadgets with. The SnapPower Charger is an ultra-simple electrical outlet replacement that adds a USB port below the usual sockets — handy, but there are already things like that, right? The twist here is you don't need to do any wiring work: Just snap on the outlet plate and screw it in, and the USB port gets its power from the current-carrying metal screws on the side of the internal socket assembly. It even pokes out from the side instead of the front, so you don't have to worry about more plugs interfering with each other.
SnapPower's Kickstarter aimed for $35,000, and as of this writing is approaching $400,000, which seems to suggest people really do want a simple USB powering solution for their phones and wearables. You can still back the project and get some of its pre-order specials, which get you SnapPowers for $11-$15, depending on how many you want.
