Oculus Rift, the virtual reality headset acquired by Facebook earlier this year, may one day be joining IMAX and 3-D glasses as Hollywood's newest plaything. Facebook has recently met with film studios and directors about creating Rift-specific content, tech news site The Information reported. Citing four people with knowledge of the recent meetings, The Information reported that Facebook pitched developing "Oculus experiences" to accompany feature films, with an eye toward eventually releasing whole movies for the device. These conversations, the site said, are in the preliminary stages and it is "unlikely" that Facebook has signed any firm deals. A spokeswoman from Facebook declined to comment to NBC News.
At the Comic Con festival in San Diego last month, 20th Century Fox, New Line Cinema, HBO and other studios showed off movie and TV experiences with the virtual reality goggles.
