Apple has updated its popular iMac line. The latest version of the all-in-one computers will include speedy quad-core processors, more powerful graphics, high-speed Thunderbolt data transfer technology, and FaceTime HD cameras. Yes, the new model basically looks just like the old one — but sometimes it's what's on the inside that counts.
According to Apple, the new iMacs will be up to 70 percent faster and deliver up to three times the graphics performance of the last generation models.
The new iMac models are available through the online Apple Store, Apple’s retail stores and Apple Authorized Resellers right now. Pricing starts at $1,199 for a 21.5-inch model with a 2.5 GHz quad-core Intel Core i5, AMD Radeon HD 6750M and 500GB hard drive. Other configurations include a 21.5-inch model for $1,499 with a 2.7 GHz quad-core Intel Core i5, AMD Radeon HD 6770M and 1TB hard drive.
If you're more interested in the 27-inch versions, then things start at $1,699. For that you'll get a 2.7 GHz quad-core Intel Core i5, AMD Radeon HD 6770M and 1TB hard drive. If you want to take things up a notch and get a 3.1 GHz quad-core Intel Core i5, AMD Radeon HD 6970M and 1TB hard drive then you'll need to shell out $1,999.
Other upgrade options include extra fast Intel Core i7 processors going up to 3.4 GHz, additional hard drive capacity up to 2TB, additional DDR3 memory, and an optional 256 GB solid state drive.
