HTC wanted a tougher phone so badly, they harnessed the power of lightning to make it.
Thanks, Gizmodo, for finding the video that explains how cool (and hot) the process of "micro arc oxidation" is, and how it creates the finish to the new HTC One S, due in consumers' hands in April. Their goal was to create a phone so tough, it didn't need an additional case to keep it safe.

If you're shopping for on a new smartphone and you tend to be a klutz with it (raising hand, right here), a smartphone that incorporates NASA satellite technology and 10,000 volts of electricity may be right up your alley.
The one-and-a-half minute video shows how, like some mythical sword, the phone's aircraft-grade aluminum cover is shot with those volts and then undergoes a chemical reaction that creates a ceramic coating in its treatment of the metal.
HTC claims it's five times stronger than aerospace aluminum, three times stronger than stainless steel.
Sounds like the phone, which will be T-Mobile's first with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, is going to be a good candidate for some kind of durability test once it's available.
