Sure, it seems like almost every child in the U.S. has a cellphone or laptop these days, but they’re not alone. Parents in the U.K. spend lavishly on tech gadgets for their kids as well, according to new research by U.K. energy company E.ON., which surveyed 2,000 adults about their tech spending habits. Among the findings: U.K. children now own an average of four gadgets each, and parents estimate they spend about $500 a year on technology for their children. Teens in the 15-17 age group are the most plugged in, owning an average of seven devices each. But it’s parents with young children who splurge the most on phones, laptops, tablets and other devices; researchers found that parents with children under 5 are spending about $670 a year on gadgets for their techie tots.
