Congress gave final approval on Tuesday to provide aid to Ukraine and sanction Russia, weeks after leaders from both parties pledged to respond to Russia’s incursion into Crimea.
President Barack Obama is expected to sign the bill, which passed with bipartisan support.
The legislation provides $1 billion in loan guarantees to Ukraine and helps supplement sanctions the president announced against Russian officials responsible for the conflict.
A partisan dispute over a provision related to the International Monetary Fund temporarily stalled the legislation in the Senate. Republicans charged the IMF language was unrelated to Ukraine aid and could decrease U.S. influence in the organization.
Democrats dropped the IMF reform from the Senate bill last week, clearing the way for it to make it to the president’s desk.
