The Sochi Winter Games don't open for a few days, but U.S. figure skating champion Jeremy Abbott is already there, training ahead of Friday's opening ceremonies.

NBC News producer Ghazi Balkiz caught the American's workout Tuesday.

Abbott is a four-time national champion but had a dismal performance at the 2010 Vancouver Games. He's leaving nothing to chance this time around, even bringing his own bed.

“I brought a queen-sized air mattress,” Abbott told NBCOlympics.com after his practice Monday afternoon at the Iceberg Skating Palace. “I did not do well on the twin bed in Vancouver.”
