Authorities in San Bernardino, California, on Tuesday asked for the public's help figuring out what a husband-and-wife killing team spent the time between their Dec. 2 terror attack on a government building and their deaths in a shootout with police later that day.
In particular, investigators are struggling to figure out where Syed Farook and Tashfeen Malik were for 18 minutes during the early afternoon after they shot 14 people to death at the Inland Regional Center and fled in an SUV.
David Bowdich, assistant director in charge of the FBI's Los Angeles field office, told reporters his agency was seeking video that would capture the suspects between 12:59 p.m. and 1:17 p.m.
The FBI on Tuesday additionally released images of the vehicle and license plate of the SUV and a map of the area where they were believed to have traveled.
Bowdich said that FBI investigators believe the shootings were inspired by international terrorism but that there is no indication they were foreign directed. He said investigators have conducted 500 interviews, collected 500 pieces of evidence and executed 29 search warrants.
