The prosecutor in the Oscar Pistorius case accused a forensic expert speaking for the Olympic athlete of not being an expert on subjects he was testifying about on Thursday.
"You see how irresponsible it is to make inferences in areas where you're not an expert?" chief prosecutor Gerrie Nel asked Roger Dixon after the former policeman contradicted testimony by a ballistics expert and the pathologist who did the autopsy on Reeva Steenkamp's body.
Dixon testified that Steenkamp's wounds showed she may have been in a different position than the prosecution says she was when Pistorius shot her through a toilet door on Feb. 14, 2013.
The athlete is charged with premeditated murder.
The prosecution alleges Steenkamp was hit in the hip by the first shot, and then in the arm and head by the third and fourth shots after she collapsed. The second shot missed, according to the prosecution.
Dixon has agreed that Steenkamp was hit in the hip by the first shot, but said the second shot struck her in the arm as she was reaching to open the bathroom door.
The trial will adjourn for more than two weeks after Thursday's testimony and will resume on May 5.
