An emotional Oscar Pistorius told his murder trial Monday how he shouted "get the f*** out of my house" before opening fire through a bathroom door, killing his girlfriend.
The double-amputee Olympian broke down and began to cry as he gave the evidence on day 22 of the trial. Pistorius is accused of the premeditated murder of Reeva Steenkamp but insists he mistook her for an intruder early on Valentine's Day last year.
"If there is somebody in your house in the middle of the night I am sure anybody would want to chase them out," Pistorius testified.
The athlete then described how he shouted to the person he says he believed was an intruder. His voice becoming high-pitched as he began to cry, Pistorius said he shouted: "Get the f*** out of my house."
The judge then adjourned proceedings. When court resumed, prosecutor Gerrie Nel put it to Pistorius that he only became emotional because that was what he shouted to Steenkamp, something Pistorius denied.
Last week, Nel suggested that Pistorius’ claim that he did not know his girlfriend was in the bathroom when he fired four shots through the door was "a lie."
He said it was “impossible” to believe the athlete’s statements that he mistook Steenkamp for an intruder.
The prosecutor also accused Pistorius of being self-centered, possessive and acting selfishly towards Steenkamp and her parents.
The trial continues.
