PRETORIA, South Africa -- A neighbor of Oscar Pistorius returned to the stand Thursday after retrieving notes made after the Olympian fatally shot his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp.
Charl Johnson lives around 193 yards from the double-amputee sprinter's home. Pistorius is charged with murder with premeditation after shooting the 29-year-old model through a toilet door. The athlete says he believed Steenkamp was an intruder.
Johnson's wife Michelle Burger earlier testified that she heard a "blood-curdling" scream on the night Steenkamp was killed. However, defense lawyer Barry Roux questioned whether Burger knew the difference between a male and female scream and suggested the university lecturer had actually heard Pistorius.
Johnson disputed that line of questioning on Thursday.
Pistorius' neighbor later read from notes Johnson said he'd made in the wake of Steenkamp's death on Feb. 14, 2013.
Roux also expressed remorse for reading Johnson's cellphone number out in court.
Johnson testified on Wednesday that he'd subsequently received a threatening phone call.
The trial continues.
