The U.S. Navy was scouring a "pretty huge" area for the missing Malaysia Airlines jet on Monday.

“We searched last night and we searched throughout the day today and as of yet nothing has come up,” 7th Fleet spokesman Bleu Moore told NBC News. "We have dispatched the USS Pinckney with an MH-60R helicopter. We've also dispatched USNS John Ericsson to refuel USS Pinckney and the helicopter so they can stay on station longer."

Moore described the search radius as "pretty huge" and said the navy was focusing on two areas in the hunt for the Boeing 777.

"One location we are searching is where the last radio communication was and another location we are searching is where they were last on radar," he added.

Henry Austin and Kristen Dewar of NBC News contributed to this report.
