A missing Malaysia Airlines flight carrying 239 passengers — including four Americans — broke contact about two hours after it took off from Kuala Lumpur, the airline and the Vietnamese government said Saturday.
In a statement posted Saturday afternoon on the official Vietnamese government website, the army said contact with Flight MH370, a Boeing 777-200, was lost during the transfer of air traffic control jurisdiction from Malaysia to Vietnam.
The signal was lost one minute before the plane entered Vietnam's air jurisdiction on its way to Beijing, the army said.
Malaysian Airlines said early Saturday that the plane took off at Malaysia's Subang station lost contact at 2:40 a.m. (1:40 p.m. ET Friday).
It still wasn't known where the plane was, the army said, adding that the Defense Ministry had notified regional search-and-rescue teams.
