Confusion reigned during a new conference about satellite images that may show debris linked to missing Flight 370 as Malaysia's civil aviation chief did not seem to know when they were taken.

“The satellite images were taken early this morning Australian time,” Azharuddin Abdul Rahman told a daily briefing for reporters on Thursday.

Some of the publicly released images were dated March 16 and when this was pointed out to him, Azharuddin said he did not have that information.

“What we have got is the prime minister of Australia talking to our prime minister,” he added.

Acting Transport Minister Hishamuddin Hussein later said that Malaysian officials had received the images taken over the weekend on Thursday.
