The Iranian pair who boarded the missing Malaysia Airlines jet using stolen passports “might just be people that are being smuggled or trafficked,” according to the head of Interpol.
The global police agency's Secretary General Ronald Noble told a news conference that "the more information we get, we're inclined to conclude it was not a terrorist incident."
He identified the second Iranian as 29-year-old Delavar Seyed Mohammad Reza.
Reza arrived in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, from Doha, Qatar, on Feb. 28 with a 19-year-old Iranian man named earlier by Malaysian investigators as Pouria Nour Mohammad Mehrdad, according to Noble.
Neither of the Iranian passports they traveled on during that leg of the journey were stolen, he added.
Mehrdad later boarded Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 using documentation stolen from 60-year-old Austrian Christian Kozel. Investigators believe Mehrdad was trying to reach to Germany to claim asylum.
Reza is thought to have used a passport that once belonged to Italian Luigi Maraldi, 37.
