Four weeks since the Malaysia Airlines jetliner went missing, the search resumed Saturday — from above, on the surface and deep below the southern Indian Ocean.
Up to 10 military planes, three civil jets and 11 ships were poised to assist in Saturday’s search for missing Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370, according to Australia’s Joint Agency Coordination Center.
Two additional ships joined the search outfit on Saturday to engage in underwater search operations, the agency said.
The Australian Maritime Safety Authority established a search area northwest of Perth of about 84,000 square miles.
According to the agency, the Australian Transport Safety Bureau is working to refine the area where the aircraft may have entered the water based on satellite communication analysis.
Searchers are racing to find the plane and its black box recorders before their batteries run out.
The Boeing 777 vanished March 8 with 239 people on board, launching an intensive international hunt.
No trace of the plane has yet to emerge, as relatives of those aboard are forced to live with the frustration of not knowing what happened to their family members.
