Officials have shared gruesome evidence photos from the shooting of two police officers in Ferguson, Missouri, during protests just after midnight on Thursday.
The pictures, which show a blood-spattered police helmet and a baton lying on a bloody patch of grass, were posted onto Facebook by the St. Louis County Police.
The officers sustained non-life-threatening injuries from the shooting, which St. Louis County Police Chief Jon Belmar called "an ambush." One officer has a bullet lodged in his head, the other was shot in the shoulder. Belmar said are lucky to have survived. They were both released from the hospital Thursday morning.
Police do not have any suspects yet. The protests followed a Department of Justice report that found evidence of widespread racial bias among law enforcement in Ferguson, the city where Michael Brown, an unarmed black teen, was shot to death by a white police officer last August.
