The social media company whose app was used to record what may be the sound of two bursts of gunfire at the time Michael Brown was shot dead by a police officer in Ferguson, Missouri, said it has verified that the audio was recorded at the time when the unarmed teenager was shot, the company said in statement.
Glide, the company that created the video-messaging app, said it has verified that the video was taken at 12:02 p.m. CT on Aug. 9, the same time that Ferguson police said Officer Darren Wilson shot Brown, 18, according to police records. The recording includes what sounds like a volley of six shots, a brief pause, and then another four or five shots, according to the message which was shown to NBC News’ Ron Allen by the attorney of the man who says he recorded the audio.
NBC News has not independently verified the audio or the circumstances in which it was recorded or what happened before or after the recording, but Glide said its software recorded the time it was taken, which allows the time to be traced back to the second. The St. Louis County prosecutor's office spokesman has told Ron Allen that if the recording is validated and the gunshots are indeed those of the Brown’s shooting, the audio could be a key piece of evidence.
A spokesman for the St. Louis County Police Department, which is investigating Brown’s shooting, said Thursday that “we are aware of the video and investigating it." The FBI, also investigating the shooting, said it is looking into all claims about the recording. Glide’s app allows people to record send video messages, similar to a text message.
