Music legend Willie Nelson, who has made no secret of his love for marijuana, has launched his own cannabis brand, the singer-song writer announced on Monday — also known as "4/20" day.
Nelson, 81, paired up with "some of the best master growers in America," to create the marijuana varieties and products for the brand, which he has called "Willie's Reserve," according to a statement from his representative, Elaine Schock.
Willie's Reserve will be sold in Washington state and Colorado, where recreational marijuana is legal. The purpose of the brand is to bring "clean and consistent products" to fans and was also developed to "lend support" to the legalization of marijuana across the country, the statement said.
"Somewhat controversially, Willie has spent a lifetime as an outspoken supporter of cannabis for personal use and for industrial hemp production," the statement said. Nelson has been a longtime advocate of using marijuana recreationally and removing the negative stigma attached to pot smoking.
"It's just a matter of time in this country before it's legal," Nelson recently told Rolling Stone. "I feel like I bought so much, it's time to start selling it back."
