In the event that General Motors runs out of vehicles to loan owners of its 1.6 million recalled vehicles, the automaker has lined up tens of thousands of vehicles from three car rental firms, according to an article in The Detroit News.
The publication reported that Hertz, Enterprise and Avis all said they would help GM meet demand for rental cars following its recall, if needed. GM would pay the bill for the rentals, in a plan that doesn't fall under the company's typical policy.
"We're trying to offer extraordinary assistance to our customers to minimize the inconvenience," General Motors spokesman Jim Cain told the publication. "We'd like most, if not all the customers that have a vehicle loan, to be driving a newer GM product."
