Lawmakers reacted swiftly to reports of a shooting at Fort Hood, Texas.

In a statement, Sen. Cornyn said the "scenes coming from Ft. Hood today are sadly too familiar and still too fresh in our memories. No community should have to go through this horrific violence once, let alone twice."

The House Budget Committee held a moment of silence for the victims of the shooting. Rep. Bill Flores, R-TX, broke the news to the committee.

In a statement, Texas Gov. Rick Perry said "Ft. Hood has proven its resilience before, and will again. Texas will support those efforts in any way we can, with any resources necessary."
