Health officials were called to the Newark, New Jersey, airport to meet a plane on the runway Saturday after a passenger began vomiting.

Hospital staff will release a passenger taken off a plane in New Jersey after he began vomiting Saturday, and said neither the ill man nor his companion show any signs of the deadly Ebola virus which has heightened tensions among travelers.

The United Airlines jet carrying 269 passengers and crew was quarantined Saturday afternoon at Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey after a passenger became sick on the plane, authorities and the airline said. Passengers were later allowed to leave Flight 998 from Brussels, Belgium, and the sick passenger was taken to a hospital.

“The symptoms of one individual were found to be consistent with another, minor treatable condition unrelated to Ebola. The second individual, who was traveling with the patient, was asymptomatic,” University Hospital said in a statement, adding that both would be released “with continued monitoring.”

The federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said earlier Saturday that it was working to increase awareness of symptoms of the Ebola virus at U.S. airports and hospitals after Thomas Eric Duncan of Liberia flew into the U.S. last month and was subsequently diagnosed with the infection.
