Ebola-infected Americans being flown from Africa to the United States will land at a military base outside Atlanta, officials said Friday. The patients will not be transported on U.S. military aircraft, but Dobbins Air Force Base in Marietta will receive the planes because it can provide security and isolation from the general population, officials said.
The State Department is working to organize the evacuation of two Americans — Kent Brantly, a doctor, and Nancy Writebol, a missionary — who are in serious condition in Liberia after contracting the deadly virus. The Centers for Disease Control equips small jets with containment equipment to safely move patients with infections diseases. Emory University Hospital has said it will admit one of the patients to a special isolation unit created with the help of federal health officials.
