Winter’s wrath isn’t over for about 10 million people in the South and Mid-Atlantic getting walloped with up to 5 inches of snow, freezing rain and ice knocking out power to tens of thousands.
The storm, stretching from northern Georgia to Maryland, had dropped about 2 inches of snow in Greensboro, N.C., and almost 5 inches in Wilkesboro, N.C., early Friday, according to The Weather Channel.
North Carolina is getting socked the hardest, with some 307,000 customers without power as utilities scramble to respond to reports of snapped lines from fallen trees.
The majority of the impacted states are getting hit by either sleet or rain, which is freezing once it hits the ground and creating a glaze of ice on the roads, warned The Weather Channel’s Tom Niziol.
Most of the storm is expected to sweep offshore by the late afternoon.
